Instagram Import#

Import your Instagram Direct Message conversations to train your agent on real customer interactions. AlonChat connects to your Instagram Business or Creator account, analyzes your conversations, and extracts Q&A patterns and communication style.


Why Import Instagram DMs?#

Your Instagram conversations contain valuable training data:

  • Real questions from followers and customers
  • Your responses showing how you handle inquiries
  • Your brand voice in natural, conversational form
  • Product and service questions that customers commonly ask

Prerequisites#

Before importing, make sure you have:

  • An Instagram Business or Creator account
  • The Instagram account connected to AlonChat (via your linked Facebook Page)
  • At least 50 conversations for best results

How to Import#

Step 1: Navigate to Chat Training#

  1. Go to your agent's dashboard
  2. Click Sources in the sidebar
  3. Select Chat Training

Step 2: Connect Instagram (if not already connected)#

  1. Click Connect Instagram
  2. Log in and authorize access when prompted
  3. Select your Instagram Business or Creator account
  4. Grant the required permissions

Instagram connections use the same OAuth flow as Facebook -- your Instagram account must be linked to a Facebook Page for business API access.

Step 3: Select Conversations#

  1. Click Import from Instagram
  2. Browse available conversations with participant names and message counts
  3. Select the conversations you want to import (uncheck personal or irrelevant chats)
  4. Click Import Selected

Step 4: Review Extracted Content#

AlonChat analyzes your conversations and extracts:

  • Q&A pairs -- common questions and your responses
  • Communication style -- your tone, formality level, and personality
  • FAQ patterns -- questions that come up repeatedly

Review each extracted Q&A pair:

  • Approve -- add to your knowledge base
  • Edit -- modify before adding
  • Reject -- skip this pair

Step 5: Train Your Agent#

  1. Approve or edit the extracted Q&A items you want to keep
  2. Click Train Agent to process the new knowledge
  3. Test your agent to verify it uses the imported content

Privacy and Security#

  • Conversations are encrypted during import and storage
  • Data is processed within your account only and never shared with third parties
  • You control exactly which conversations are imported
  • You can delete imported data at any time
  • Customer personally identifiable information is automatically anonymized

Best Practices#

  1. Select business conversations -- skip personal chats and spam
  2. Include variety -- import conversations covering different topics and situations
  3. Focus on recent messages -- conversations from the past year are most relevant
  4. Review extracted Q&As -- check quality before relying on them
  5. Combine with other sources -- use Q&A pairs and text sources to fill gaps

Troubleshooting#

"No conversations found"#

  • Verify your Instagram account is a Business or Creator account (personal accounts are not supported)
  • Check that your Instagram is linked to a Facebook Page
  • Ensure the connection is active in your Chat Training settings

"Import failed"#

  • Try refreshing your Instagram connection
  • Check that your permissions are still valid
  • Re-authorize if your connection shows as broken

"Poor extraction quality"#

  • Import more conversations for better pattern detection
  • Focus on conversations where you gave detailed, helpful responses
  • Manually add Q&A pairs for topics the import missed
